I have been drawing since I could hold a pencil — it was a
good foundation for the stories and woodcuts that followed.
This art that grew from a chance event has been the fulfillment of a desire to combine images and words that are drawn from the wonder of animals.

Twenty-five years ago at a local school in Vermont I came upon a platen press that was being disposed of to make room for computers. This lucky find led to my writing, illustrating and printing over twenty books and numerous cards, using handset type and linoleum blocks. The books are bound by hand, signed and numbered.
“Good storytelling, well-conceived and well-executed illustrations, and simple but highly competent book-crafting characterize the work of Lucky Dog Press and its proprietor, Lucy Swope. These are books to be treasured by children and their parents alike.”
